The model isn’t optimizing a workflow; it isn’t analyzing efficiency; it isn’t checking your interface for the easy solution. It’s predicting the next likely sentence based on patterns it has seen before.

This is why AI so often delivers processes that are longer than necessary.
It’s why you get instructions for menus you don’t have.
It’s why a simple job turns into a multi-step ritual.

And this is the truth of it:

It’s not that AI “doesn’t know” your platform has a shortcut — it’s that it never goes looking. The system isn’t designed to evaluate the fastest path; it’s designed to generate the most statistically normal one, even when the simpler option is sitting right there.

After that, show me the simplest built-in or native way to do this using what I already have. Do not create a long workflow if a short one exists. If a longer process truly is required, explain why the simple path will not work in my setup. As you describe each step, tell me what should change on my screen so I can confirm accuracy. At the end, list the assumptions you used so I can correct them before taking action.”

This is the type of instruction sequencing that shifts AI from guess-mode to something more usable. It doesn’t guarantee perfection. Nothing does. But it dramatically reduces detours, complexity, and rework.
